MASCARA MISTAKES WE MAKE

Create the perfect lashes Do's & Dont's

Hello beauties today's talk is all about mascara. After asking women what is the one product they won’t leave home without the answer was "MY MASCARA". Mascara is one beauty product that most women don’t leave home without because when worn it adds volume to the eyes and opens them up. However, applying it on correctly sometimes can be a task yet frustrating. We are going to make it easier and simple for you to apply mascara in your daily makeup routine and give them the focus they deserve.

1) Does the wand matter?

DON’T: So many of you ask this question if the wand actually matters and the answer is of course it does. You want to avoid brushes that are not full bristled and short.

DO: You want to use mascara that has a wand to give thicker lashes. We recommend a longer brush with a narrow tip at the front with fuller bristles because this way you can work the individual lash.

2) TO PUMP OR NOT TO PUMP

DON'T: Some of you have probably have heard the myth: You should never ‘pump’ the mascara wand in and out of the tube. Well it’s definitely not a myth it’s actually very much a trusty fact. The action could spell death for your favorite mascara. Pumping the wand in an out isn’t recommended. When this action is done it pushes air into the tube, hence drying out the mascara increasing the risk of bacteria getting in it, causing eyes to get infected and red.

DO: I suggest a more effective way of getting mascara onto the brush by gently twisting or turning the wand back and forth inside the tube, and then gently pulling it out to pick up the desired amount of product.

3) TO CURL OR NOT TO CURL

DON'T: Beauties please don’t curl your lashes after applying mascara. Lashes are very delicate and this causes them to break and risk losing what you have and who wants to do that, especially when you want to add volume to them; you have to have some lashes to do that.

DO: Curl lashes before applying mascara in upward motion making sure you don’t pull before opening the curler. Curling lashes upward allows more light to hit the iris of the eye, so the overall effect makes your eyes appear larger and brighter. If you wake up feeling like you could use two extra hours of sleep, use a lash curler.

If you don't have your curler handy (or are too scared of the contraption) apply mascara, and while it's still wet, use your fingertips to push up your lashes.

4) TO APPLY IN ONE DIRECTION OR MORE THAN ONE

DON’T: Beauties don’t get in the habit of only using the mascara wand horizontally. Most of you probably use classic one direction technique in applying mascara which is to apply the base of the lashes.

DO: To get lashes to their full potential you need to wiggle the mascara wand to really hit the roots and give lashes that extra lift they deserve. Wiggling helps create volume in a well-defined base. In addition you should also turn your mascara wand vertically to coat lashes for maximum lengthening results. When you use your wand vertically, you can really get the roots of your top lashes. I would suggest using a windshield wiper motion along the root of the lashes with the wand held up and down. Then do the same method to coat the tiny bottom lashes. It’s important to brush mascara on each individual lash, so they fan out.

Before and after with our Natural Lash Mascara using wiggling and vertical effect.

5) SHOULD I KEEP MY MASCARA A LITTLE LONGER?

DON’T: Many of you probably want to keep your mascara longer thinking it can last forever. Please this is WRONG! Mascara is one beauty product you should not keep too long.

DO: Beauties please toss any opened mascara if you have had it for more than three months. Not only does it begin drying out but there is no telling what microorganisms have been growing inside that dark tube of mascara. Bacteria starts to grow on the wand and inside the tube, which can lead to red, itchy eyes and even pinkeye.  With a product that goes so close to the eye, you want to be extra careful. Even if you’ve only used the mascara once or twice, the three month rule still applies.

6) REMOVING MASCARA BEFORE SLEEPING

DON’T: Please don’t go to sleep without removing mascara. Even if the mascara is organic and natural it’s not recommended to go to sleep before removing it.

DO: Just like your face lashes also need to breathe so they can look their best so always remove any traces of mascara before falling asleep so when re-applying in the morning it’s much easier. Using a cream cleanser like Gia Minerals Green Tea Cleanser removes mascara without leaving any residue. A Cream cleanser with rich oils antioxidant based works better as lashes get the nourishment they need and deserve because without lashes let’s face we would not be happy.

7) ARE ALL FORMULAS THE SAME?

Gorgeous lashes begin with taking care of them. Using mascara that also provides nourishing benefits without chemicals makes a difference in carrying for your lashes. Avoid mascara with toxic ingredients and try switching to a formula that includes clean organic ingredients that offer moisturizing benefits from antioxidants to nourish and condition lashes.

8) CHOOSE HEALTHY LASHES

Our version of natural volumized beautiful long lashes includes a formula enriched with organic ingredients such as Sunflower, Chamomile, Vitamin E, Jojoba Oil, Lavender, Rosemary and Thyme that we have included in our Natural Lash Mascara.

Give lashes the love they deserve
