Push to ban plastic microbeads from beauty facial scrubs gains momentum

It's time you stop using beauty products with plastic microbeads..

Banning plastic toxic microbeads from facial scrubs and other beauty personal care is crucial to our environment. It will help ensure clean waters across and set an example for our nation to follow, and the many rivers and lakes across our state are among our most important natural resources.

The plastic beads come from exfoliating face washes, body scrubs, hand sanitizers and toothpaste, new laws will slowly ban their sale by the end of 2019.

These microbeads are found floating in the Great Lakes. Often the beads can soak up toxins like a sponge. And since they resemble the size of fish eggs, environmentalists fear the micro-plastics are making their way into the food chain via fish, birds and mammals. Commonly made of toxic polyethylene or polypropylene, the tiny beads range in size from 0.0004 to 1.24 mm, making them too small to be filtered out by wastewater treatment plants.I bet many of you probably did not know that these microbeads were actually made of plastic.

Illinois, Ohio, New York and California — have microbead-free acts wending through their legislatures. Minnesota is seeking a study on the plastic's impact.

I'd love to see similar leadership and action taken on this side of the border as well to stop the use of these harmful toxic plastic microbeeds.

Beauty company's can use alternative organic natural ingredients to include in there facial scrubs or exfoliators. Here at Gia Minerals we use natural, certified organic jojoba beads. For example our Vitalizing Organic Exfoliating Cream is enriched with jojoba beads to help you uncover your gorgeous glow.
